Preschool Is Not Mandatory For Children - 1301 Words
When most people think about preschool, they think about a group of 3-4 year olds coloring or playing as teacher watches them waiting for their parental guardian to pick them up after work. For some of us through we did not get to experience preschool, while we arenââ¬â¢t any less productive for it, we could have possibly achieved more with it. Preschool is not mandatory for any child to attend, many studies have been conducted which show the benefits of high quality early education. One of those benefits is the acquisition of a new language. Parents should be fighting to make universal preschool for their children and we should be adding a foreign language to the curriculum. A foreign language should be taught when the mind is in its language acquisition stage. Foreign language is more than common thing here in the United States of America. We are culturally diverse nation, filled with many different nationalities. According to Carla McClure, an education writer, she argues the benefits of early second language acquisition. She references numerous studies, one being the correlation between second language learning and improved mental process. As well as, mentioning that children who starting learning a second language before middle school are more like to speak the language fluently. However, not everyone would agree with the idea of universal free preschool. Hollee Saville, a licensed family childcare provider who has a masterââ¬â¢s in Early Childhood Education, argues that early education should not be viewed as a one-size fits-all model, and that we are robbing our children of their childhoods. She uses the examples of Oklahoma, who has had universal pre-K since 1988, and Georgia, whoââ¬â¢s universal pre-K has been around since 1995, have had their 4th graders tested by National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) which they were found to be below grade level proficiency. Life-Saving Weapons of Mass Destruction The atomic bombs dropped in Japan during the Pacific War were initially devastating, killing thousands of people in the blast, but they were also life-saving and beneficial to Japan and the geo-political world. World War II officially ended after Japan surrendered, putting an end to the deaths of soldiers from around the world. Japanââ¬â¢s economy, which had taken a great hit later in the war, began to improve with the aid from the United States. The modern public is now well aware of the extensive damage these weapons caused, which has prevented further deployments of nuclear bombs, keeping the global public protected from nuclear warfare. With the lives lost in the decimated cities, there continue to be many more preserved. At the moment, girls in India are making bricks in the 40 degrees heat for house and are carrying them on their backs for up to as 10 miles to their destination. Also, at this same moment, children in Thailand are working in factories doing the same repetitive and tedious job all day long while dreaming of having the privilege to be educated. We are here today to fight against the worst form of child labour. Our opposite party might say that the role of children in child labour is essential to a familyââ¬â¢s economy. Many people in favor of child labour say that without children helping their parents in farms for example, the family will not be able to harvest the food in time resulting in starvation in wintertime and possible death. Those in favour of child labour ask us: as we protest against child labour, do we realize that millions of families would die of starvation ? This is why, those against child labour now fight against the worst forms of child labour. I believe that children should have the right to go to school and be properly educated. Donââ¬â¢t you ? I believe that children should have the right to stop working when their work is unnecessary to their familyââ¬â¢s welfare. Donââ¬â¢t you agree ? As one observer says: ââ¬Å"We worry about what a child will become tomorrow , yet we forget that he or she is someone today.â⬠I believe that childhood is one of the most important stage of life. It is a time that is precious, a child should grow up in innocence and should not be working. Someone once said: â⬠All things are difficult before they are easy.â⬠Yes, stopping the worst form of child labour will be difficult at first but with your help, we can make a difference ! I personally believe that a person with hope and courage can change the world ! Martin Luther King said: â⬠All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.â⬠Our work to stop child labour will and can uplift humanity and change the lives of millions of children who work in the most horrific conditions. I believe that, together; we can change the world. But to do so, we will need help. We will need help to free the millions of children who suffer from the worst form of child labour.
